During our recent webinar, ZeroTier One Update for Enterprise, we highlighted some exciting work underway to enhance the ZeroTier platform. ZeroTier is already trusted by thousands of businesses and installed on millions of devices worldwide, and we’re continuing to make it even better.
Two weeks ago, we opened up a key new platform element to our Early Access Program members to get a sneak peek. Today, we’re excited to announce the new Central for ZeroTier One is available for general release for all new users. This new release includes an enhanced and optimized UI and UX and also marks a big step forward in making network management faster, simpler, and more intuitive. Here’s what’s new in this release.
Your network — simplified
The new ZeroTier Central introduces a streamlined onboarding experience designed to help users get up and running quickly. The new sign-up flow consolidates account creation, GDPR acceptance, and Terms of Service agreement into one seamless process. Independent users who join are automatically set up as owners of their own organizations, giving them full control from the start, a new concept to ZeroTier. This provides them with full administrative control from day one, and establishes the basis for ReBAC (Relationship-Based Access Control), a model that manages permissions through the connections between users, resources, and roles.
A new and improved UX
With this release, ZeroTier Central introduces a complete redesign of the user interface and experience. Navigation has been simplified for faster, more seamless access to networks, devices, and settings. The new layout reduces clutter, highlights key actions, and makes it simpler to find what you need without unnecessary clicks.
Under the hood, we’ve also implemented enhanced performance tracking to support the continued improvement of the platform. Future updates will extend this functionality, offering users insight into how their networks perform, along with smart recommendations to optimize connectivity and efficiency. Despite receiving consistent praise for our simplicity and ease of use, we will take this further with AI enhancements, to suggest optimizations and solve common issues.
The ZeroTier brand gets a makeover
Users will also notice our updated visual identity, reflecting ZeroTier’s continued evolution as a platform focused on clarity, accessibility, and ease of use. The refreshed design across Central delivers a cleaner, more seamless interface and echoes the updated look on our newly launched website. This branding refresh aligns with our mission to make managing enterprise-grade networks feel as intuitive as using any modern SaaS product.
Powering scalable infrastructure for growth
This release also introduces a modernized backend architecture, anchored by new ZeroTier One controllers. These controllers streamline how members are admitted to networks and how certificates and configurations are issued. This leads to noticeable improvements in performance, scalability, and reliability.
Over the coming months, we’ll continue migrating all users to this new infrastructure, ensuring every organization benefits from its enhanced speed, stability, and fault tolerance. This migration lays the groundwork for faster provisioning, smoother peer discovery, and improved connection consistency across global deployments. Whether managing a small test environment or a large enterprise network, users will see improved reliability and reduced latency across the board.
Building the blocks to smarter access with ReBAC
In this new release, we’re also introducing the foundational components for our Relationship-Based Access Control (ReBAC) model, officially announced during May’s ZeroTier One Updates Webinar. These building blocks will better support complex organizational permissions. A significant improvement over legacy RBAC solutions, all users in an organization will be listed without showing full downstream permissions. An update to the Admin Model will make all users an admin at the organization level, with one designated owner per organization. The owner will be responsible for legal notices and billing details.
These initial launch components set the stage for a fully realized ReBAC framework, which will support per-network permissions, contextual access, and policy-based controls. This will further enable large enterprises and IT professionals to manage network access with greater precision and transparency.
Streamlined billing and subscriptions with new pricing plans
Billing and account management are now built directly into the Central interface. This reflects our broader mission to offer a complete, self-service experience that reduces friction and gives users full control over their networks and accounts. With this update, users can update payment methods, modify subscription plans, and view invoices seamlessly. Our billing platform hasn’t changed, and this won’t affect our millions of existing customers, but it’ll greatly improve simplicity for entitlement, node, and device management.
Members can also now seamlessly switch between plan tiers or modify subscription levels with just a few clicks. Upcoming enhancements will let users manage the full lifecycle of their accounts, including organization deletion, subscription cancellation, and account closure, all from within Central.
Also new with this release is the introduction of ZeroTier’s new pricing tiers. Discussed during last May’s webinar, the new Personal, Essential, Scale, and Enterprise tiers reflect a renamed pricing structure that mirrors our most recent pricing, and is designed to fit today’s wide range of ZeroTier use cases. The new system is also built to grow, allowing for future enhancements, expanded plans, and a la carte options.
Existing users will receive updates on when and how you’ll get access to these new features. Current Essential plan users will be updated to the new Essential plans with a loyalty discount. These changes will bring everyone onto a more consistent and transparent model. Legacy users with very old or unique pricing will receive an individual email with their special pricing update.
